Harriet Hosmer
A neoclassical Neo-Classicist in Rome, Hosmer was one of the leading women sculptors of her time and earned complete financial independence through her art. She also exhibited her work at the Paris Salon, the most prestigious art exhibition of her day.
Janet Scudder
Another sculptor with a big heart, the American-born Scudder began her career in Cincinnati before moving to Chicago, where she worked as a studio assistant for Lorado Taft and his commissions for the World’s Columbian Exposition. She later settled in New York City and specialized in garden fountains.
Cecilia Rodhe
Swedish sculptor and former model Rodhe achieved fame as a model in the Miss Sweden pageant, but it was her passion for sculpture that eventually led to her becoming an artist. Her figurative style draws from human interaction with a strong focus on the strength and emotive capacity of the body.
Teresa Wells
Known for her dynamic bronze sculptures that celebrate the strength and resilience of the human form, Wells draws inspiration from the strength of the body in motion. She also creates a variety of nudes that spotlight the emotional capacity of the human body.
Niki de Saint Phalle
French-American sculptor and painter Saint Phalle became famous for assemblages of furious, aggressive figures shot with weapons, which developed into Nanas, whimsical, large-scale, colorful sculptures. She was also recognized for her social activism and commitment to women’s rights.
